Obituary for Derek Barton Stuart
Derek Barton Stuart
A celebration of life for Mr. Derek Barton Stuart of Monroe, LA will be 3:00pm Saturday, August 19, 2017 in the chapel of Griffin Funeral Home 600 Hwy 139 Monroe with Jerard Toney officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Stuart was born June 2, 1984 in West Monroe, LA and passed from this life on August 10, 2017 in Monroe, LA at the age of 33. He loved video games, electronics and movies and especially enjoyed playing “Magic, the Gathering”. Derek had an adventurous approach to all things culinary. Since getting so sick, he so enjoyed watching the Ainsley Harriott cooking show, and for laughs, Good Mythical Morning spoofs on cooking. He was a charismatic young man filled with a zest for life and laughter, and never lost his wit or his hopes for the future. He was a very intelligent young man who had a great sense of humor and was a loving son, brother and friend to all who met him. Derek was a joy to all those who were lucky enough to know him and his absence will make an impact forever.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, “Papaw” George Stuart, “Mamaw” Ruth Stuart, “Granddaddy” Don Medaries; and special friends, Paul Crider and Clint Thomas.
Survivors include his parents, Bart and Robin Stuart of Monroe; his sister, Ivy Ramelle Stuart of Monroe and her boyfriend, Ryan Earl of West Monroe; grandmother, Robin “Mimi” Medaries; also survived by a host of extended family and special friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Derek’s honor to the Cancer Society of America and the Lifeshare Blood Center.
