Obituary for Monty Gregory Sawyer
Monty Gregory Sawyer
Funeral services for Monty Gregory Sawyer of West Monroe, LA will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Fair Park Baptist Church on 4412 Whites Ferry Road in West Monroe. Pastor Waymond Warren will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, LA under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
Mr. Sawyer was born on June 10, 1947 at the St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, LA and passed from this life on May 24, 2017 at the NE Louisiana Veterans Home in Monroe at the age of 69. He served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force as a B-52 Mechanic at U-Tapao Air Base, Thailand during the Vietnam War. A talented and experienced craftsmen and fabricator, he cherished nature and spending time outdoors, was an avid fisherman and loved his family, his country and the Lord Jesus Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Sawyer and Eva Beaver.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Greg Sawyer, and his wife Karen of Montgomery, AL; one daughter, Michelle Turner, and her husband Danny of Justin, TX; one sister, Becky Thomas, and her husband J.T. of West Monroe; one brother, Randy Sawyer of West Monroe; four grandchildren, Shelby Turner, Becca Turner and Trey Turner of Justin, TX, and Paige Sawyer of Montgomery, AL; and a host of extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Terry Feragne, Edward Sawyer, Greg Sawyer, Steve Sawyer, Collin Steele and Don Stuckwish.
